Vision and Publicity: Shaping the Future

Navigating “on a rope” above urban “traffic” offers a transformative perspective for enhancing mobility services without overhauling already congested urban spaces. Cable cars stand out as an economical, efficient, and eco-friendly alternative in terms of planning, construction, and maintenance. Unlike traditional transport systems, they bypass traffic jams, require minimal urban space, and glide autonomously above the city's dynamic environment. Moreover, their visible presence in the cityscape not only enhances their functionality but also establishes a distinctive identity, leaving a lasting impact on the urban aesthetic.

Aim and work

The envisioned cable car route would connect Offenbach Kaiserlei and Frankfurt Eissporthalle, with an intermediate station on Hanauer Landstraße in Frankfurt. This corridor is currently served only by bus, requiring transfers and leading to extended travel times, particularly during peak hours. The heavy traffic congestion characteristic of this area further exacerbates delays and inefficiencies in the existing public transport system. The proposed cable car system offers a direct, uninterrupted alternative that not only mitigates these challenges but also contributes to a more sustainable and efficient urban mobility network.

As part of my contributions to the project, I undertook the comprehensive 3D modeling of the entire proposed cable car route, spanning from Offenbach to Frankfurt. This included detailed digital representations of the stations, surrounding infrastructure such as roads and sidewalks, as well as residential and commercial buildings, green spaces, and other urban features. The models were meticulously textured and subsequently visualized using Unreal Engine to create a realistic and immersive representation of the project.

The outcome of this work culminated in an animated sequence, which is now featured as part of a permanent exhibition on mobility at the Historical Museum in Frankfurt. Additionally, I created a physical architectural model that was enhanced by me through a projection mapping installation, providing an engaging and dynamic representation of the design and its context.
